My AP&Q block competition - I WON!

Ok an update - and I hope this doesn't sound bad but since its the first competition I've been in I'm indulging myself...

I won one of the eight places!!!! Vicki also won one!!!

So being just a little more indulgent, here's a pic of the fabrics...

(for anyone interested I one with the crazy chess block)

In this months AP&Q magazine they had a competition for some Leutenegger fabric, and to enter you needed to create a 6.5" square block in purple, pink and green - the blocks to be put together later for charity. So I hassled Vicki and we decided to have a go, since it was small - you could enter as many times as you like.
Here are my entries...

This is the first one I did - I call it 'crazy chess' it was a little fiddly to line up the base grid since there are vertical and horizontal angles but a fun challenge, the hearts at the top are applique the ones at the bottom are reverse applique.

This is the second one 'Fish in a bowl' lol, the fish bowl is reverse appliqued and the Siamese fighting fish (pattern by Darcy Ashton) is Applique.

Lastly just to use up the scrap curves from the fish bowl 'heart'.

It was a fun exercise because its not often that you do things on such a small scale without the need for larger repetition.

I'm also attempting my own hand sewn Dear Jane Quilt in gorgeous hand dyed Cotton Patch Fabrics  hopefully if you click the DJ link it will take you to that blog - we're doing it as a group and there are some gorgeous blocks there by the others.
